Summer Reading Challenge 2019

The summer reading challenge: “Space Chase”

We’re pleased to be taking part once again in this year’s reading challenge, from The Reading Agency.  Targeted at 4-11 year olds, the theme for this year’s challenge is “Space Chase”. To complete the challenge all you have to do is read 6 books over the summer holidays. They can be any books, but they must be borrowed from the library. There are rewards for each book finished and a certificate if you complete the whole challenge. You’ll need to register (it’s free) and registration opens on 13 July (a week earlier than in our printed newsletter)

Another evening with Gavin Extence

Friday 27 September at 7.30: Another evening with Gavin Extence

We are delighted to welcome back our local, best-selling author, Gavin Extence. Come along and enjoy an informal evening, when Gavin will be telling us about his latest book, “The End of Time”. Set against the background of the 2015 migrant crisis, the novel tells the story of two teenage refugees, brothers, who are travelling across Europe to the UK. This is a free event – just turn up!

Extended Saturday Hours

Extended Saturday Opening!

We’re pleased to announce that, following user feedback in our recent survey, we’ll be extending our Saturday opening by one hour, and will now be closing at 1.30pm. We’ll be trialling this for a period of three months starting on 15 June.

That’s a whole extra hour to browse our books, choose something from our bookshop, use our computers, get your hearing aid batteries, or just sit and read.

Confused by Computers?

Are you confused by computers? Do you need help with filling in online forms? Or would you just like to get more out of your laptop, tablet or smartphone?

Heeley Trust run support sessions in the library every Friday morning. No need to book — just turn up. Bring your own laptop or tablet, or use the computers in the library.
